The oil that we put into our engines has many roles to play. In fact, a performance comparison reveals that formulating motor oil is a balancing act between providing suitable lubrication and protection for the engine, promoting the following properties:
- Reduced Oil Consumption
- Increased Fuel Efficiency
- Valvetrain Protection
- Low Temperature Pumpability
- Reduced Oil Thickening
- Piston Deposit Control
Motul insists that motor oil is one of the most important components in your vehicle to pay attention to. “Being a good oil isn’t good enough for your engine. The oil needs to be specifically formulated for your European engine to prevent premature wear and other operational problems. All car companies now-a-days have specific oil requirements for their engines because they are working harder, have tougher emissions requirements and need very specific lubrication properties. Choose your oil wisely to protect your investment.”
At 3zero3 Motorsports, we use Motul 8100 X-CESS 5W-40 as our house oil. This oil (and all Motul 8100 oils) are 100% synthetic. Fully synthetic engine oils not only lubricate the engine and other components, they also handle extreme temperatures and help regulate and control deposits internally. Because their molecules are more consistent, they create a more even distribution of detergents and dispersants.
“Fully” Synthetic Engine Oils
Here in the US, the standard for engine oil to be categorized as a fully synthetic only requires it to contain Group III base oils. Because Motul is a global company and actually invented synthetic technology, they formulate their oils to conform to the global standard for a true synthetic. This means that their fully synthetic oils contain a very specific amount of Group IV oil. Group IV oils are polyalphaolefins (PAOs). Because of the process in which PAOs are made, they have a broader temperature range for use in more extreme cold and heat conditions. This is especially important for us Coloradans as our driving conditions vary from hot summer days to cold winter days, not to mention our mountain driving conditions where the altitude and atmospheric pressure changes requiring more out of our engine oil. They also offer a higher film strength and higher viscosity index, which is a lubricant’s ability to flow.
Our House Motul Oil
At 3zero3 Motorsports, we primarily service and maintain Audi, BMW, Porsche, VW, and Mini Cooper cars. Theses European cars are designed with a high level of engineering and perform best with high quality fluids. Our house oil (8100 X-CESS 5W-40) is expertly designed and conforms to the strictest European standards. It is a 100% synthetic oil that is designed for cars with high power to liter ratios and is reinforced with anti-wear protection for longer life of engine parts. In addition, the oil also follows ACEA standards, API standards, and OEM approvals. *
Running a 100% synthetic will also allow the oil to maintain its viscosity longer. The additive package is of higher quality and maintains its benefits over the entire life of the oil change interval. If the oil change interval is passed, the oil will not protect your engine the way it is designed to as well. This is why it is so important to keep up on the intervals. Your car will love you for it!
