For some, the thought of winter driving can be scary and daunting, while others love driving in winter conditions! At 3zero3 Motorsports we understand that no matter your winter driving comfort, winter tires are essential! The onset of low traction road surfaces for many can mean more fun during a normal commute than we would otherwise have. For many of us who do not frequent track days in the warm summer months, winter driving represents the maximum limit of the performance we demand from our vehicles. For this reason, we highly recommend snow tires for your vehicles.
Snow tires are specially built tires meant to give your car extra traction in winter weather. Snow tires have enhanced tread patterns and provide the traction needed not only for snow and ice but maintain play-ability in temps 45 degrees Fahrenheit and under. All-season or summer tire’s rubber compounds start to harden at 45 degrees and under and can freeze in lower temperatures causing them to act more like ices skates than tires. When temperatures drop below 45 degrees, the rubber compounds change and become less responsive and overall grip reduces, jeopardizing traction. This can happen in wet, snowy, or icy roads and even on dry roads if the ambient temperature is low enough. All of these conditions can be encountered in a single drive on the right day here in Colorado. Whether your car is all-wheel drive or not, having the right tires for the right season is a must.
